Human history is a story of migration. Thirty years ago, when I started my search for my own family history, I naively assumed that when I found the villages from whence my ancestors got on a boat to come to North America, I would have it made. They would have been there since forever. I would know exactly where I came from.
This has, delightfully, proven not to be the case. People moved around. A lot. Whether due to historical events, a search for a better life, or simple wanderlust, people often ended up tens, hundreds, or even thousands of miles away from where they were born. In short, they migrated. We find traces of these migrations in records: birth records, death records, census records, ships manifests, as well as personal stories handed down from generation to generation.
With the development of genetic analysis of individuals and human populations, it is clear that we have always migrated, almost from the time we appeared on the scene. Genetic genealogy has given us a further means by which to trace these migrations.
Our goal at Migrations Genealogy is to help you trace your family history through time and place and to uncover the stories that are associated with your ancestors, through both traditional genealogical methods and interpretation of your genetic genealogy tests.
We also offer services to other professionals including document retrieval and heir tracing.
