We can trace your family tree for you, provide a detailed report on a particular ancestor or branch, consult tracing your own family tree, or provide advice on how to break through a brick wall.
How much should I expect to spend?
Our rate is $45 an hour plus expenses (including travel). If you are a NM resident, you will also be charged sales tax. We require a 5 hour retainer ($225) to cover the cost of time strategizing your project and evaluating source materials. Unused hours will be applied to your hourly rate for research or reporting. Consultations are billed at an hourly rate and do not require a retainer. Note: the following are examples of the typical number of hours I spend doing a particular type of search and are not binding.
- Finding an immigrant ancestor 2-10 hours.
- Tracing a particular family line– about 1-2 hours per generation.
- Finding a military record — one hour (NARA copies of service and pension records are about $40 each).
- Finding a mutual ancestor based on genetic testing? 3- 20 hrs.
- Writing a fully documented report for any of the above 4-5 hours.
- Providing documentation for a genealogical or heritage society 15 hrs +
- Getting you started on tracing your own family tree 1-3 hours.
